A 45-year old woman was allegedly killed and hanged from a tree for suspected practice of witchcraft while three persons have been arrested in Assam’s Kokrajhar district, police said on Monday.
The woman was missing since Saturday from Mohanpur village under Gossaigaon police station and her husband informed the village headman who filed a case with the police on the same day.
The police and the villagers launched a search and she was found hanging from a tree on Sunday night in a remote area of the village.
Her body had stab injuries and the police have sent her body for postmortem.
Three persons have been arrested in this connection while another was absconding with search operations intensified to nab him, the police added.
