Assam’s popular singer, actor and producer Zubeen Garg has been hospitalised at a private speciality hospital here after he fell down and became unconscious on Tuesday night.
Garg was staying at a resort here when he complained of uneasiness and as his attendants were preparing to take him to the hospital when he fell down and became unconscious.
He was rushed to the hospital where a team of doctors from various departments are attending on him, a senior specialist of the hospital Dr Rana Barua said on Wednesday.
An MRI scan was done and it was found that he had an ‘epileptic fit’, Barua said.
There was no head injury and his condition was currently stated to be normal.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has directed the Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner to ensure that the best possible medical treatment is provided to Garg.
He also directed Health minister Keshab Mahanta to supervise the medical facilities being provided to the singer and if required, he may be brought to Guwahati or taken outside the state by an air ambulance for better treatment.
Garg shot to fame with the song ‘Ya Ali’ from the Emran Hashmi and Kangana Ranaut starrer ‘Gangster’, followed by several hits including Dil Tu Hi Bataa from Krrish 3.
He has several solo albums to his credit including Chandni Raat, Chanda, Sparsh and others.
He has composed music for several films in Assamese, Bengali, hindi, and other languages of the state.
A popular singer of Bihu songs in Assam, the 52-year old singer commands the highest rate for stage functions held during the spring festival in the state.
Garg has acted and directed in several films with Kanchanjunga, Mission China, Dinabandhu, Mon Jai among others being super hits.
He has a huge fan following in the state and patronises several fan clubs, named after him, which are involved in several social and humanitarian activities.
